Effectively timing your declaration is a crucial component of endgame mastery. It might be prudent to wait to declare until you are positive that you can win or at least reduce your point loss if your opponent declares first, especially if you think you have a strong hand ready for melding and observe that they are almost ready to go out as well. In high-stakes scenarios where every second counts, this tactical timing can make all the difference.
